Songster Records "Where The Music Becomes You"
Reggae definition as defined by Songster Records is a genre of music originating in 1968 on the Caribbean Island of Jamaica, which was strongly influenced by the Rastafarian ideology. Reggay as it was known at the time evolved in Jamaican spelling due to the rege dance that was associated with this newly incorporated Ska, Calypso, Blues, Jazz, Rock n Roll, African and Latin American based music. The people dancing were referred to as raggedy people or people wearing ragged clothes and hence the term Reggae was conceived.
Reggae has an unforgettable sound due to the keyboard/piano and or guitar playing staccato on offbeat measures. Reggae lyrics for the most part relate to the social injustice facing the Jamaican people and the oppressed people throughout the world over.
